Instructions for Research Projects
Establish a New Project
Any collaborative research project must first be discussed with the Facility Director, Al Burlingame. This initial discussion will involve presentation of the science of the project, discussion of feasibility, and suggestions of appropriate methods of sample preparation. If the project is approved, then you must complete the Application for Project Approval form. From this you will be assigned a project number, which should accompany all sample submissions for the project.
Collaborations with the Facility are established on a project-by-project basis. Although your group may already collaborate with the Facility, or has done so in the past, you must discuss new or different projects with the Facility Director in advance. Do not reuse project numbers.
By entering into a collaboration with this Facility, users agree to provide information as requested for purposes of annual reporting to NIH. This information includes your current financial support, a statement of ongoing work, your usage, and resulting publications.
Submit a Sample
Once you have established a project with the facility you will be able to submit samples for analysis under your project number.
Grant Acknowledgment Requirements
For all publications using data obtained through the Bio-Organic Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Resource at UCSF you are required to acknowledge the Facility and the applicable grant number. Mass spectral data have been provided without charge through support in part from the NIH NCRR Biomedical Research Technology Program. You have the responsibility to appropriately acknowledge this trans-NIH support of biomedical mass spectrometry. Below is an example of the format for acknowledgment of the Facility. Also following is a table that lists the instruments and the grant numbers that must be acknowledged. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Acknowledgment Example:
"…was provided by the Bio-Organic Biomedical Mass Spectrometry Resource at UCSF (A.L. Burlingame, Director) supported by the Biomedical Research Technology Program of the NIH National Center for Research Resources, NIH NCRR P41RR001614."
